Nail avulsion with chemical/phenol matriectomy

Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern
For recurrent ingrown toe nail, after nail avulsion, the nail matrix on the side of ingrown toe nail is destroyed by phenol application so that the nail plate on that side of the toe does nt grow back.. The procedure is known as nail avulsion with chemical matriectomy.

My husband had undergone this removal using phenol twice or thrice but it grew back every time, I am not sure if another time also it will be successful or not. Could you please comment on it?
Brief Answer:
phenol application must not have been done properly
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Obviously the application of phenol was not done properly otherwise it should not have grown back. Phenol application is 100% effective in ablating nail matrix. One solution is to ablate the whole of nail matrix with phenol instead of partial ablation after nail avulsion.
