Suggest Treatment For Ingrown Toenail Causing Discolouration Of Skin

Question: Dear Doctor, I've been to the GP because of an ingrown toenail and have had surgery to fix it. Since two months there have been no improvements and I see a colour change of my skin around the toe. Can you help me and tell me what do to next? I am quite worried and would not want to loose a toe
Brief Answer:
another surgical procedure required
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Some toenail infections at the beginning may be treated with antibiotics and salty baths and you can try with it, but at this stage I think that half of the lateral part of nail should be surgically removed and inflammed area around it excised properly. Or even total nail ablation can be considered and nail would grow in 4-6 months in this case. You need to wear comfortable shoes and apply antifungal cream. WIsh you good health. Regards
