Suggest Treatment For Ingrown Toenails
Ski Jump toe nails(Onychocryptosis) /Options of Treatments
Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear,Thanks for your query to HCM.
If your query would have accompanied with picture of your ski jump toenails, it would have been more informative. With the pictures and detailed complaints of toe nails, treatment specific for your case, could be planned.
Whether you are alone in your family to have it?
How and when they started to trouble you?
Based on the facts, you have 3 toenails with this defect, I assume those may be genetically inherited. Let me know if I am wrong.
Here the defect is in the nail bed which is narrow at the base of nail, with upward turning of the edge of the nails and ingrowing of the edge in the soft tissue, due to the broader nail bed at the edge of such a nail.
As these nails cause nail ingrowths with in the nail fold soft tissues, repeated infections of the toenails is the problem in such individuals.
Accompanied diabetes needs to be ruled out as such individuals, such a problem of ingrown nails is more.
Treatment-
Rule out the diabetes with Consults from Physician.
By Medicines -as antibiotics if need be antifungal(to treat accompanied fungal infections /Phenols or TCA to control infected nails with NSAIDs-x for 5 days time.
Keeping them dry and rested with good soft shoes would help for early recovery.
Accompanied fungal infection may be a cause of chronicity of ingrown nails.
Surgical Treatments available:
X-ray to rule out(osteomyelitis) spread to underlying bone is needed in some cases.
Could be by Matricectomy, where the ingrown nail plate is removed and the broader nail plate-at nail edge, is reduced to prevent recurrence of such nails.
Electrocautery or Cryosurgery with Co2 lasers, also can be used.
If it still recurrs,Excision of the nail matrix is curative treatment.
Hope this would satisfy your needs and would help you to treat the ski-jump nails of big/middle and ring toe nails.
Good Day!!
