Suggest Treatment For Inguinal Fungal Infection

Question: Good afternoon Dr. Rynne,
Interested in the best over the counter treatment for a fungal rash that does not seem to go away. Already taken a round of Itraconazole and am using a topical but seems to hang around. It is not any worse and have been on the topical for 2 days - but getting frustrated that it is not getting better either
The rash is contained in the groin area with some spread to the inner thigh
keeping it as dry as possible and applying the monistat 3+ times a day after showers
Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
I am sorry to hear that you are having difficulty treating your inguinal fungal infection also known as jock itch or tinea cruris. The over teh counter treatments would be powdered lamisil or tinactin. These will be most often found in the athlete's foot area in the stores. You can use the spray twice daily in the inguinal area just like you would for athlete's foot fungus. Give it a full two weeks before saying it doesn't work. If it does not work you may need to take an oral anifungal like diflucan.
I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
