Suggest Treatment For Inguinal Hernia While On Tramadol

Question: I am 52 years old and I have an inguinal hernia. I went to an emergency room last Friday because the pain had been getting worse. A CT scan shown that it extends to the scrotum and contains mesenteric fat and some small blood vessels. The report concluded that is is possible that it is incarcerated. The doctor prescribed Tramadol 50mg for pain, taken every 6 hours. I have not vomited and as far as I can tell, I have no other symptoms of strangulation. I have surgery set for next Friday. The pain is a burning sensation that comes and goes. I want to know if I should go to an emergency room for emergency surgery.

* Inguinal hernia extending into scrotum with such narrations till are not indicating
obstruction , can have planned surgery on Friday .
* No need to rush for emergency surgery .

* I suggest some precautions for meanwhile period as follows

- Manage diet properly so that you get regular smooth bowel evacuations .
- Avoid weight lifting , heavy exercises or other acts which will increase pressure
inside the abdomen .
- Remain ambulatory but avoid prolong driving , running , jogging at present .
- Keep foot end of the bed elevated for 30 degrees while resting .

* Rush to emergency in case of

- Severe unbearable pain even after medicines .
- Any abdominal distension , vomiting .
- Severe constipation , hard stools with straining .
- Swelling in the groin becomes very tense , not going inside any how , any
type of redness of overlying skin .
