Suggest Treatment For Inguinal Hernia
Question: My husband has a bulge right above the groin area. He initally thought it was an ingrown hair, however it does not hurt, is not red and has been there for a little over a month. The only desciption I have is it feels as if a bb pellet was right below the skin. He states it causes no pain or discomfort and has not grown in size. Should we be worried? What type of doctor should he go to?
Brief Answer:
Ultrasound should be done to find out what it is.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Such bulge can be an inguinal hernia or enlarged lymph node.
Hernia should be more visible when standing and coughing and less visible when lying down. Can be painless. Should be soft in touch.
Lymph node can be also painless bulge. It is much harder than a hernia. It can be palpated as a kind of marble. Lymph node can be visible especially if he is a thin person.
The best he can do is to have this area ultrasound done. Secondly he should consult general surgeon.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
