Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Aphasia And Seizure Disorder
Question: My 19 year old daughter has had a wide variety of symptoms that seem to be getting worse over the last year. She has started having intermittent episodes where she suddenly becomes pale, weak, and shaky, she has excessive diaphoresis and feels like she will faint. This comes on at different times of the day but mostly in the mid morning. She has also developed a sudden onset of intermittent aphasia and was worked up for a seizure disorder, head CT was normal, and she was diagnoses with migraine at that time. She now is having excessive menstrual bleeding and cramping lasting for 12-14 days, stopping for about 7 days and then starting again. She had blood work done to r/o anemia and has been given IV fluids to help with potential dehydration. She was slightly orthostatic in the ED last night. She has had blood drawn several times this year and all results are normal, she did have a mildly elevated DHEA, I suspect she has PCOS. She is slightly overweight and has excessive hair growth as well. We have been to our primary care doctor, the neurologist, the ED, and have an appointment with the GYN tomorrow. My question is are these symptoms linked to a particular disorder? Could this all be related to PCOS or is there another possibility I should be exploring?
Brief Answer:
Multiple ailments
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
PCOS is indeed a possible cause but that would not include issues like intermittent aphasia and seizure disorder. These are a part of neurological ailments and need to be systematically evaluated. I would insist you to take her to a neurologist for the same. Anemia is another independent complicating factor that needs to be treated with iron supplements.
Let me know if I could help further.
