Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Speech While Treating TIA

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Jun 2015
Question: I allegedly had a TIA on April 30,2105. My speech never came back. All tests negative. Speech now intermittent. My hands have taken on a life of their own. Drawing up. All these symptoms come and go. Sometimes it is like an attack and it is reall scary. I am 52 and shave a professioal job. I have no train to fabricate this. One neurologist Said it was cd. Another said it was inconclusive. The psychiatrist said it was organic with a psychological component because of my anxiety. If your were walking around like Frankenstein on crack you would be anxious too. I may lose ecerything I worked so hard for. I am scared. The psychiatrist had me on klonopin, adivan and baclofer

Brief Answer:
More info and brain MRI needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

First, I need to make you some questions in order to have a better understanding of your condition.

-These movements precede the anxiety, or anxiety starts first?
-Movements follow a regular pattern or change continuously?
-Are there situations or places that those movements worsen or subside? (outside, inside house eg.)
-You said you had TIA, did you had any imaging studies ( brain MRI) done, if yes, do we know the results?
-Drugs prescribed by Psychiatrist improve your symptoms?
-Speech intermittency is related in time with these movements?

If you didn't have brain MRI, you will need one to clarify any organic cause of your symptoms.

Hope this helps. I remain at your disposal for further questions or clarifications.

Best regards.

I had a CT scan, MRI and MRA. All negative. The anxiety proceeds the attacks. I Will feel better and think "it's" over and here comes another attack. My speech is slurred and broken because my muscles won't work. My hands are drawing up. The medication helps but my speech is still not the best. I am an attorney and I don't know what to think

Also, the symptoms are fairly the same. The day it happened I was going on vacation and I woke up with the left side of my mouth hanging down and my words were slurred. Over the next week my speech changed. Like my mouth was locked up and then I had my first "atrack" at the nail salon. My toes were curling under but the medication has helped with everything except my speech. Which is somewhat better. I have to get back to work. I feel
Devastated and sod t know what to expect

Brief Answer:
Further evaluation needed.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and thanks for the clarifications.

If no suspicion of brain structural damages,
then the disorder is more likely to be linked with psychological issues.

However, to be sure about this, possible metabolic and hereditary causes should be excluded, I can mention some of these possibilities: XXXXXXX dysbalance or accumulation, Huntington's disease.

Your symptoms and their abrupt start doesn't fit completely in above mentioned disorders, but, in my opinion, your diagnosis will result by excluding other probable diagnoses.

For this purpose, careful neurologic examination, blood tests about any probable metabolic disorder and brain imaging are needed.

Second opinion by a Neurologist and a Psychiatrist needed too.

Hope I helped you. Wishing you good health.
