Suggest Treatment For Internal Staph Abscess In Fingers

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: Hello,

To make a long story short, I had an INTERNAL staph abscess in my finger rupture. I felt an immediate rush of bacteria rushing to other parts of my body. I waited three hours, and took Clindamycin to slow down, eventually stop the abscess leak. By the way, I didn't take Clindamycin on that day, until the incident happened, so it was not currently active in my bloodstream.

I think some of the bacteria got to my brain. I have been feeling brain fog ever since. I have also been feeling some small pain in my body, like that slight infection heat type of feel, but I am most concerned about my brain. It happened on late Monday evening. I heard brain bacteria infections are rare, but they are possible. I mean look at Lyme's Disease, chlamydia left untreated, so it is possible. I know doctor's usually look for visible or measurable things to determine an infection like temperature (mines was normal last night), but I am sure something is wrong. I am catching this early, so the symptoms are probably not full blown. Think about it like this, someone is having a stroke, but catches it early, so there will be less damage, right?

I have told two doctors, one a GP and the other an orthopaedic, that I still had abscess in my finger despite being on Clindamycin for two week, but they didn't listen and I almost lost my life. So, my trust in doctors is not at an all time high. So, anyways, I have two options to solve this problem... Go to the ER and demand a Doxycline in pill form or IV or take some Doxycline pills I have left over before I switched over to Clindamycin. I only took one day's worth of Doxycline before switching over.

I am thinking ER. I just don't want to get screwed over again, and having to end up paying all that money. If I go to the ER, what should I tell them so they will take me seriously and not send me home without nothing being accomplished? I am not showing symptoms, but I feel something wrong. It feels like I have brain fog. I actually feel the bacteria underneath the space of my brain. I took 100 mg of Doxycyline earlier today, and it killed some of the bacteria, but I think an IV would be better. So, what should I do? How should I handle this situation when I make my eventual trip to the ER? I am tired of fighting these health issues... I have made so much progress to quit now...
By the way, now, I am feeling dizzy and out of sort. So, I am starting to show some symptoms. Believe it or not, I am a bit happy. I guess the carbs I had for lunch fed the bacteria to revert me back to the state I was in before I took that one doxycline pill.

Brief Answer:
Finger abscess

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. It seems you had some finger abscess. It could be due to staphylococcus ,being the commonest organism. You had taken clindamycin to which staphylococcus usaully are sensitive. However it is not clear whether you have taken a full course of the antibiotic.Staphyolococcus aureus spreading from finger abscess to brain causing pyogenic meningitis or brain abscess is possible but at the moment you don't seem to have symptoms of either. At this stage it is better to complete the treatment for finger abscess. You can subject any discharge or pus from your finger to culture and sensitivity test and meanwhile to start a course of Linezolid for a total period of at least 05 days. Taking doxycycline now and then is neither advisable nor is of any use as its spectrum is different and is unlikely to be effective for staphylococcus infection. In case you are having fever, headache or vomiting,do see a doctor ,or visit ER.
