Question: My daughter 18 years of age has intestine inflammation. Doctor prescribed metronidazole. I know it has
a lot of side affects. She's having diaheria but this last time her stool was dark green almost black. Can this
be from the medication, or something more serious like bleeding in her intestines. Should I go to
emergency or wait to see a physician tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
Not bleeding and not medication. Probably related to the infection!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this inflammation that your daughter has. If she were bleeding, there would have been severe pain and probably dizziness which signals an internal bleeding site. This is not the case and I very much think she is not bleeding, Black blood related to bleeding would also be very offensive.

Right now, there is no need to go to the emergency room. My advice is to monitor. She should increase fluid intake to compensate for fluid loss through diarrhea. Unless otherwise, I anticipate al would soon get settled. I will not even ask that she sees a physician tomorrow unless something else comes up.

I hope this helps, I wish your daughter well. Thanks for using our services and feel fee to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
