Suggest Treatment For Intractable Hiccups
Question: hi i have intractable hiccups for one year and seven months had ct scan of brain and stomach had colonoscopy brain is normal i also have acid reflux and taking nexium 40 mg and taking baclofen 10mg twice a day but hiccups still bad
Brief Answer:
GERD as main cause together with others as following. ..
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concern.
Having hiccups is very fastidious. In your case, acid reflux is the main cause. Controlling acid reflux will also help in diminishing hiccup episodes.
Phrenic nerve damage /irritation and thyroid problems should be also further evaluated.
A complete electrolyte balance and diabetes testing should be also carried out.
For the moment, I can only advise to try to manage GERD as well as you can through diet and lifestyle changes and taking meds correctly as prescribed by your doctor. An increase in dosage of nexium might be considered after reevaluation of GERD.
All the best!
