chelation therapy is the recommended treatment...
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
I am Klerida Shehu Gastro -Hepatologist and I ma glad to help you.
You are reporting to have build up of iron in your liver due to frequent blood transfusion.
At your situation I would recommend to start chelation therapy to lower Iron level in your body.
The mostly recommended chelation therapy is Deferasirox (Exjade). It is in tablet form and well tolerated by patients.
Otherwise before starting these medication you need to do have your vision and hearing tested. Deferasirox can cause damage to the ears and eyes.
Meantime I suggest to use low in iron-rich foods and avoid foods reached in iron like:
- avoid red meat
- avoid tuna
- avoid salmon
-avoid iron-fortified cereals
- avoid eggs
- avoid Vitamine C
Hope it was helpful to you!
