Suggest Treatment For Iron Deficiency In A Patient Post Hip Replacement Surgery

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Oct 2015
Question: I had 3 total hip replacements in 22 months on the same hip followed by a stroke in recovery. My iron level is 22 and I feel horrible with all usual extreme symptoms of low iron. PO iron gives me liquid stools. Finally my internist is helping me and planning some IV iron. Now he tells me it will take several injections, Medicare and my AARP won't pay and it will cost me $4,000.00 out of pocket! Does his all sound right? Last surgery and stroke 6 months ago. I am 75 Thanks!

Brief Answer:
You need intravenous iron infusion.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You have iron deficiency. So you need iron supplements. But tou can not tolerate oral iron so injectable iron is needed.

Iron sucrose or iron dextran is available in injectable form and you should take complete course of that.

You should take iron rich food like dates, green leafy vegetables, dry fruits, jeggary etc.

You should also go for ultrasound abdomenon and stool occult blood test once to rule out any chronic blood loss.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.

Was hoping for a comment on the huge price tag for me. Any ideas where to obtain it cheaper? They are planning to use Venofur. I just need to figure out how to pay for it.

Never heard of Jeggary?

Thanks!
