Brief Answer:
Your grandmother needs in-hospital treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for asking to HCM!

Your grandmother seems to suffer from heart failure decompensation. She needs to be optimally treated in a medical center (hospital for a few days). Diuretics must be administered i/venously to treat extensive edema; a careful evaluation of her blood pressure and heart rhythm should be performed and an appropriate therapy for these issues initiated.

I am sorry to explain, but your grandmother must be treated in a hospital, not ambulatory, as a close comprehensive monitoring of her vital parameters and frequent blood tests should be done. Probably you have to talk again, and make change her mind.

Hope to have been helpful to you. Greetings! Dr. Iliri

I have talked to her, and she refuses treatment of any kind. she gave up when my grandfather passed 7 years ago. is there anything I can do at home to help ease her symptoms? I believe she is near death, as she is getting weaker and more difficult to talk because she has trouble getting her breath. Paramedics say they can't do anything since she refuses help

Brief Answer:
Insist to send her immediately to hospital.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again! I am sorry to hear that your attempts are unsuccessful. Probably you need a nurse to administer loop diuretics to your grandma (furosemide i/venously), but it is difficult to judge without a physical examination and no data about blood pressure values and heart rate. She needs oxygen therapy too. You should find a doctor to see her at home. He would judge better about doses and further steps. I think it's worthy to talk again with your grandmother and send her to the hospital immediately.
Hope a possible improvement for you grandma health. Greetings!
