Suggest Treatment For Irregular Periods

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Jul 2014
Question: What is a good pill to take to have periods? My periods have stopped for over three months and I am most definitely not pregnant. Also what is a good long-term oral contraceptive pill with minimal side effects? I had my first baby on November 23rd and my last normal period after that was in Feb 2014.

Brief Answer:
related to lactation

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam thanks for trusting health care magic.
This irregularities in period is most probably related to lacyation and delivery.
But since you got period in February you definitely need contraception.
Firstly do a urine pregnancy test which if negative then take tablet norethisterone for 5 days and then you will get periods after stopping the drug

From next cycle onwards visit a gynecologist for proper examination and tests to rule out certain things before starting oral pills.
Ask your doctor to give you estrogen in lowest doses with drospirenone combination.
It will not affect lactation so will suit you the best.
Take care.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I did a pregnancy test and I'm not pregnant. I'll take your advice, but can you make a recommendation on the pill? My gynaecologist suggested Femilon, does that meet the criteria you suggest?

Brief Answer:
femilon is a good ootiin

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, good to talk to you again.
Yes femilon is a good contraceptive and will help to regularise your periods as well provide good contraceptive benefits.
As estrogen is in low dose it won't affect lactation either.
Wish you all the best. Take care.

I just wanted to know if you are suggesting I take norethisterone once a day for 5 days or more than once a day? Also since norethisterone is not available - can Normet or Primolut N be taken instead? Thank you sincerely for your help. You've been great and I will be happy to recommend you to friends! Please do let me know about the above. Thanks. Here are my questions again:

1. norethisterone once a day for five days?
2. Is Normet or Primolut N okay instead of norethisterone ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (5 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
promolut has norethisterone

Detailed Answer:
Thank you mam.
Norethisterone once a day for 5 days for getting periods and then femilon from first day of periods.
Yes both normet and primolut N have norethisterone but take care that it should be a 10 mg tablet.
Take care
