Suggest Treatment For Irregular Periods
I'm 34 years old and recently had an ultrasound done Aug. 31st. I'm currently experiencing prolonged period, a light period that started on Aug. 4 lasted for 2 1/2 weeks, now I'm on my period again started Aug. 31st more heavy flow...My stomach is really bloated, sharp pain sometimes but comes and goes in the pelvic area, lower back seems to be really sore. I've been dealing with fatigue prior to this for about 6-7 weeks. I have an appt. set up with a Gynecologist within two weeks. Hopefully this isn't cancer but something that can be managed by birthcontrol pills or other alternative methods without having to have a hysterectomy.
The ultrasound you had is enough to diagnose you
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
Irregular periods can be caused by many factors- some are physical problems with your uterus, such as polyps and fibroids (both benign) and hormonal issues can also be a factor. A combination of hormone tests and an ultrasound of your uterus is enough for an initial evaluation and the GYN you will see in 2 weeks can go over the results with you. You are extremely young to have cancer or anything life threatening causing your bleeding. You should also do a pregnancy test if you are having unprotected sex because abnormal pregancies, like tubal pregnancies and miscarriages also can cause irregular light bleeding as a symptom. Most benign causes of abnormal bleeding can be managed with birth control or other non-invasive means before resorting to surgery but it really depends on your diagnosis. However I want to reassure you that it is very unusual to have anything dangerous causing symptoms like this in your age group.
