Suggest Treatment For Irritation And Redness In Vagina
![default](/r/images/default.png)
My wife and I have been to multiple doctors for my daughter (she's 35 years old and functions as a 3 year old). She is mentally challenged and is not toilet trained. She is having a lot of irritation & redness with itching - in and around her vagina because of her BM's go into her pull-up until we can get her somewhere to change her (most of the time it is soon after - I'm not sure if its acidic or what but between the urine and the BM's which are usually normal, sometimes it's sticky and soft. She has been on oral Nystatin and various other anti fungals that are applied in and around her vagina like miconazole. We have even tried vinegar and vasaline . Sometimes she has 2 - 3 BM's per day. We've tried not using the anti fungal topicals, for a time, but nothing seems to work. I've never used this site before and was hoping you might have history of helping geriatric patients (hospice or mentally challenged) and have some other idea of new methods to try. Please help. If I did something wrong on my initial question I hope this will correct that and give you the real questions I've asked. Thanks for your help.
topical cream/dry and clean.antiseptic lotion
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I went through the query and understood your concern.
I apologise for not going through medications tried in the first question. Usually queries will appear in the area wher you have asked for the doctor.
I really appreciate your efforts and care you have taken.
The symptoms like redness and irritation is due to inflammatory response. Not only fungal infection even constant irritation and moistness for long period can cause these symptoms.
Since she already taking oral antifungal agent maintaining good hygiene, clean and dry will help her most in curing the current problem and to prevent further episode. Also topical antifungal agents like clotrimazole cream will help in treating local symptoms like redness, irritability and itching.
If its bacterial infection then cleaning with local aseptic lotions like povidine iodine and then applying neosporin ointment will help in the current episode.
Also you need to dry the area with soft cotton cloth with pressing against the area. Never you should rub against soft area. Also washing with just pouring water and then cleaning by pressing against the area will help her.
I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask for any further queries. I will be glad to answer them.
Wish your daughter faster recovery and good health.
Regards
