Question: Have itching and burning on the crown of her head that does not go away have had for awhile. She is 80 years old . Made appointment to go to a doctor even though she does not like to go to doctors.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

One possible explanation for the symptoms might be a scalp issue such an allergy (from some hair product she might be using), a fungal infection, psoriasis or simply dandruff. Of course direct observation is needed to confirm that, so it is good that you have scheduled a doctor appointment. In the meantime you can try a 1% hydrocortisone cream which is an over the counter product.

As for neurologic causes I can say that those symptoms are not indicative of a brain lesion like stroke, tumor, infection etc.
It may often be related to stress and anxiety as well, but scalp disorders must be excluded first.
