Without the correct picture of lesions it will be difficult to give clarification. It may be due to friction or herpes or fungal infection. If it is an infection it can be confirmed with blood tests. Consult doctor for examination, diagnosis and management.
Till then both can do the following:
Clean the area with warm water twice daily.
Apply topical antibiotic cream like mupirocin.
Avoid friction and irritation.
Avoid intercourse.
Wear loose cotton inner wears.
Anti-inflammatory analgesic like ibuprofen can be taken.
