Suggest Treatment For Itchy Hives All Over Body
Question: Hi Doctor, my mother had aortic valve replacement surgery 6 days ago, she came home Friday , and Saturday morning developed skin rush, and by the evening it was all over her body hives, I consulted her surgeons , they recommended Benadryl. It helped for 8 hours, in the morning she walked up with hives again and itching . Could you please any advise ?

Based upon the images, its Acute Urticaria . Antihistamines such as Loratadine and Cetirizine can be advised. Calamine lotion helps to soothe localized itching. Another option would be to go to an E.R near you where an antihistamine plus steroid Intramuscular injection can be administered along with oral antihistamines subsequently for 10 days to prevent a recurrence.
