Suggest Treatment For Itchy Pimples On Scalp With Hairfall
I have observed pimples in my scalp and it is quite itchy and hairfall has increased. I have started using Nizoral shampoo and the itching has subsided a bit, though the pimples still exist. Now i see pus pimples/boils appearing on my face and even on my tummy. What could be the problem?
Acne and spots

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic
I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have understood it.
Acne is a disease of the pilosebaceous unit and therefore usually develop in areas rich in sebaceous gland activity e.g face, chest, back, shoulders etc. People who have acne usually have oily facial skin/excess sebum secretion.
Scalp is also rich in sebaceous glands. Acneform pustules can occur in the scalp in those who have oily scalp and dandruff which are in turn related to sebaceous glandular overactivity.
Dandruff in turn leads to increased hair shedding. So controlling dandruff would decrease hair shedding as well.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest that you continue with Nizoral shampoo, every alternate days.
Apart from this, as a treating doctor I would have started you on oral antibiotics e.g doxycycline (cap. microdox-LBX 100 mg), twice daily for 2-4 weeks. This would work for acne on face as well as scalp eruptions. Doxycycline is antibacterial as well as antiinflammatory. Its antiinflammatory activity is the main reason for its use in acne.
For acne on face, you may use a topical benzoyl peroxide gel (Microbenz 3.5% gel) for day time application and a topical Adapalene+Clindamycin combination gel for night time application (Deriva-CMS gel). The Adapalene component belongs to retinoids class, which are antiinflammatory, comedolytic and thus prevent new acne formation. Retinoids also lighten the spots resulting from acne.
Once you acne activity is under control you may also use a cream containing kojic acid (kojic cream) for the spots.
Use a gentle cleanser for face wash e.g Cetaphil cleansing lotion, twice daily.
