Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes On Abdominal And Chest Area In A Person With Psoriasis

default
Posted on Tue, 19 May 2015
Question: Mid February I thought that my inverse psoriasis of 30 yrs. had cleared in certain areas and had attacked my scalp again (maybe 20 yrs. ago.). I had some other skin issues about a month later...very itchy rashes on my abdominal and later my chest. Dermatologist took biopsy of both my scalp and abdominal...results came back undetermined. He also took a culture of my abdomen...results staph infection. He didn't culture my scalp. I have had three rounds of antibiotics and two predisone packs. My abdominal has healed...still area a little itchy. Chest rash is gone. My scalp itch had cleared until I was finished with predisone. After less than a week my scalp itch started in again. I need to stop this miserable, annoying itch...it is nonstop. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Could be seborrheoic capitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

I have gone through your history,

From your history, I understand that you had long standing psoriasis with few remissions now and then.

The current lesions, however, did not show a picture of psoriasis on biopsy.

I would consider the possibility of seborrhoeic dermatitis. This is an inflammatory condition which could affect the trunk and the scalp. It is caused by an overgrowth of yeast called as Malessezia.

You could use a shampoo containing 2 % ketoconazole. Apply and leave for 5 minutes before rinsing it off.

Use every alternate day.

Use a mild, soap free cleanser for the body.

Apply a cream with 1 % hydrocortisone twice a day on the rashes on the chest and abdomen till they itching subsides.

Hope this helps you.

If you have any more queries, I will be glad to answer.

Regards,
Dr. Johny Chacko
