Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes On Arms, Chest, Neck And Inner Thighs

Question: Hi, I used permethrin three times in the last two months, trying to treat what I thought was scabies. I have been suffering from an on going rash which feels like shingles but is too wide-spread - arms, chest, neck and inner thighs. Last week I had a scratch test and they said I didn't have scabies. I am highly allergic to penicillin - in fact it does feel like a penicillin rash. Could there be a connection, and how do I get rid of the rash?

Brief Answer:
Take cetirizine. Apply clotrimazole and hydrocortisone cream.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. If you had scabies, it is highly likely that application of permethrin over entire body neck downward at bedtime and scrubbing it off with soap the next morning (for three consecutive days) would have provided the solution and it is unlikely that you would have to repeat it thrice over two months. There are several types of skin lesions. The other possibilities are fungal infection and eczema. Application of clotrimazole + hydrocortisone cream should help but I would strongly insist you to visit a dermatologist and your yourself examined.

It is unlikely to be a penicillin rash.

Regards
