Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes On The Body
Age - 30
Gender - M
Any long standing conditions - No.
Problem:
Have around 4 rashes on the body for a while(around 4 months now). They don't itch so much, but only when I go out in sun.
Have seen three dermatologists so far -
1. Doctor 1 - Diagnosis - Fungal infection.
2. Doctor 2 - Diagnosis - Fungal infection.
3. Doctor 3 - Diagnosis - pityriasis rosea.
Questions or Problems:
1. I started with KZ cream, but it makes my rash worse and itches more. So, do I still continue this or stop it?.
2. Do you think its a fungal infection at all as I doubt that with application of KZ cream it makes(or seems) it worse?. What would be your suggestion?.
3. There are times when rash completely disappears until I go out in sun. Application of desodine totally heals it. But, afraid of steroids.
Other details - I have taken LFT around 3 months back and they were fine. Also, 6 months back CBC was fine. Application of desodine creams make the rash disappear in a day and rash won't recur for 15 days or so.
Can you please help me with above?.
Pityriasis XXXXXXX as most probably
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM...
Thanks for detailed history and photos. I read history and saw photos. You have multiple mild scaly patches and macules and that are mildly itchy. I feel that most probably your skin problem may be pityriasis rosea.
Pityriasis rosea is a relatively common skin condition, characterised by distinctive skin rash of raised, red scaly patches across the body. It is a selflimiting condition.
It might heal by itself within 2-12 weeks , but may remain for few months in some case. It does not lead to serious threat to your health.
In many cases, a single red, oval patch of scaly skin called a “herald patch” appears before the rash. This typically appears a few days to two weeks before the wider rash.
The rash is sometimes itchy.
Exact cause is not known. It definitely is not caused by a fungus or bacterial infection. It also is not due to any known type of allergic reaction. It is not a sign of any internal disease. It is neither contagious nor sexually transmitted. But,there is some evidence that it is caused by Human Herpes Virus type 7 (HH7) infection, as this virus has been isolated from blood, skin lesions, and white blood cells (lymphocytes) of pityriasis rosea patients.
You consult the expert dermatologist again and have firm diagnosis and perfect treatment... However, I would like to suggest as follow..
- if you feel comfortable, you leave the treatment and wait for self healing.
- if you feel embarassing you may go for treatment.
- mild steroid cream like desonide..you have applied it or mometasone cream may be applied. It reduces inflammatoin and enhances the healing.
- antihistaminics like tab levocetirizine 5 mg daily at night.
- antiviral like famcyclovir, antibiotics like erythromycine and oral steroid may be considered some time by dermatologists.
- avoid fragranced soaps, hot water, wool and synthetic fabrics which may help to reduce skin irritation.
I hope this would be helpful to you.
Wishing you early recovery.
Thanks.

- Since, I have allergic reaction to KZ cream. So, your recommendation is to stop it?. Also, should I stop taking these oral antifungal medicines?. I am confused as its generally not advisable to leave antifungal therapy in between.
- Based on the pictures and my history, there is nothing to worry right doc?.
My other observations are:
Whenever I leave it alone, it almost looks healed except some very light marks.
If I use desodine, it completely heals for a few days or weeks until I go out in sun.
Pityriasis rosea
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back..
You please avoid all medicines including Kz cream and oral antifungal. You Wait for few weeks. If the lesions remain, you apply desonide cream till the lesions disappear. Light marks might remain for few weeks to few months. Ultimately they will disappear. You may take antihistaminics like levocetirizine,if you feel itchy sensation in lesions. Please avoid anxiety related with your skin disease. It is harmless condition.
I hope you got my answer.
