Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: Was stung by a little brown spider. About the size of a head of a small nail or screw. Came up as a small red looking pimple. it's been about two hours now. No pain or swelling just the little spot. It does itch though and I scratched off the little head of the bump. what advice would you give me? I don't know what happened to the spider though. here is a pic of the bite.

take antihistamine tablets

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing us.

I have gone through your question in detail along with the photograph. I share your concerns about spider bite and possible complications.

However let me assure you that you are not likely to get any problem as it's already two hours since you were bit by spider and you don't have anything other than some itching. So don't worry much. You can use over the counter antihistamine such as benadryl or cetrizine tablets along with a pain medicines. Alternatively you can visit the ER for antihistamine shots especially if its severe and intolerable.

Temain alert for few more hours (six) about symptoms like difficult breathing, generalised skin rashes or fainting attack. Although chances are very little, but should you notice any of those symptoms, it will need medical attention.

I hope my reply will help you. Please write to us for more information and any follow up question. I wish you good health. Take care in future.
