Question: How do i know if the itchy sores in my nose that scab and turn white are bacterial or viral, like herpes?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

Only examination will tell the difference between nasal vestibulitis (bacterial) and nasal herpes( viral).

Recurrent sore and scabs in the nose are more frequently due to nasal vestibulitis. It is due to folliculitis which is infection at the base of hair inside the nose. It causes pain, scabbing. Bleeding can occur on removing the scabs. It is usually caused by repeated nose picking and blowing. It can be easily treated with topical mupirocin.

Recurrent herpes infection of the nose can produce sores and scabs inside the nose. It is not as common as nasal vestibulitis. It can also be treated easily with topical and oral anti virals. Both the conditions are common in diabetics.
