Detailed Answer:
Hi, Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. Your concern for your brother is admirable.
Let me try and give you some background to this problem so that you understand what is going on and what needs to be done next.
Kidney stones are condensations of minerals which develop in the kidney (most of the time) or the bladder. The stones themselves are no issue (for the most part, though some stones can harbor infections). The fact that they can block the outflow of urine from the kidney and cause pain and recurrent infections when they do this, is what you should be concerned about.
Many people walk around with stones in their kidneys for their entire lives without even knowing about it.
Since the DPTA shows that the flow through the kidney is OK, i beleive this is a situation where we should "wait and watch'. Make sure he gets regular checkups from his doctor and make sure he drinks plenty of water and eats a diet which will lower the chances of developing stones. Such a diet would be low in certain vegetables that contain calcium.. etc. Our nutritionists can help you out with that if you wish.
I hope this helps, Take Care
