Suggest Treatment For Knee Pain Post Treatment For Tore Ligament In Knee

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Sep 2015
Question: About 6 weeks ago, I tore a ligament in my knee (the one on inside of the leg) and felt some pain in the back of my knee as well. I was treated with steroids and encouraged to do water exercise. The pain has abated from that ligament, but yesterday the back of the knee started hurting a lot. It was hard to walk on it, and last night I had trouble sleeping because of the pain. What should I do, besides going to the doctor. It's a weekend and I don't want to go to the ER unless I have to.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to joint effusion

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

Excruciating pain is likely to be due to effusion in joint. I do understand the difficulty of weekend and going to ER. I would suggest you the following

1. Bed rest

2. Elevation of knee by placing it under pillow

3. Hot water fomentation which will help relieve spasm

4. Analgesic like Ibuprofen will help relieve spasm

5. Skeletal muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxazone will be helpful

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you

What is hot water fomentation? I've been icing it and took some ibuprofen about 2 hours ago, and the pain has eased somewhat. I also have pain radiating on the outside of that leg, from hip to ankle, and the thigh muscle (quad) is also feeling strained and tight. Would that also be a symptom of joint effusion? Also what does joint effusion mean?
Is Chlorzonaxazone? Can I get it over the counter?

Brief Answer:
Coolection of fluid in joint is joint effusion

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

Joint effusion is collection of blood or fluid in joint spaces, it usually presnts with swelling and pain around the involved joint.
Hot water fomentation can be given by soft towel soaked in hot water and applied over affected part, alternatively hot water bag can also be used.
Chlorzoxazone is muscle relaxant and is usually available as OTC .
