Suggest Treatment For Large Floaters In The Eye

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jul 2015
Question: I have progressively larger floaters in my lft eye and last week I saw some flashes in that eye also in the evening. I saw eye O.D. as I pulled up some info that said flashes indicated retina detachment. Dr. said she did not see the detachment but said to call if I get more flashes and floaters. Well, I got the flashes (5) in lft eye last night. Did not call Dr. yet as no flashes this morning but big floaters like half circles. I started taking eye vitamins and flax oil. Can I help heal this or will it get worse?

Brief Answer:
These symptoms will decrease gradually.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I am Dr.Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
Floaters are because of vitreous related problems.
Vitreous is a gel like structure which lies behind the lens.
It undergoes degeneration with ageing.
The common problems see are vitreous detachment, vitreous liquefaction.....
These can cause floaters and flashes of light.

Most of these are harmless and does not require treatment. The symptoms of floaters will decrease slowly.
The presence of symptoms like sudden increase in floaters or presence of flashes of light require evaluation to rule out retinal problems like retinal thinning or retinal tear.
The presence of these retinal problems requires treatment by laser to prevent complications like retinal detachment.

Since your doctor has examined and retina is normal no need to be worried.
You need to follow up if the symptoms worsen, otherwise no need to be worried.

Eye vitamins and flax oil does not help in this condition and hence not required.

Hope this answers your question and the information is helpful to you.
