Suggest Treatment For Large Red Rash On The Back Of Leg

Cellulitis

Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care question
You are currently vacationing in Maui and you noticed a large red area on the back of your leg. This looks like a reaction to an insect bite called a wheal. If the area itches then I recommend using a steroid cream to reduce the itch and reduce the redness. If this is not an insect bite then it could be related to a superficial infection. For this I would recommend seeing an urgent care center for possible antibiotics.

It was itchy at first, but then began to hurt, now it doesn't hurt at all. Concerned it might be a sign of deep vein thrombosis from the plane flight. Do you think this is a possibility?
Brief Answer:
Not a DVT
Detailed Answer:
From the location and your history this sounds like an insect bite. I would recommend using the hydrocortisone cream and ice to reduce the swelling and redness.
It is unlikely to be a DVT because it is too localized. A DVT would cause the entire leg to swell and be red.
