Suggest Treatment For Left-sided Abdominal Pain And Sore Muscles
Question: I have a pain in my left side. For the most part it,
I feel it when I move. I have been trying to decide if it is just a very sore muscle or perhaps something else. I have had it for about 24 hours and it has become worse. I don't know of anything that I may have done to cause it. I am a 65 year old female. I did one of the diagnostics online and was told to go to the hospital immediately if I had pain on sudden movement. I am able to walk around and have no fever.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The information you 've provided is not sufficient so I am going to ask a few questions.
Where is the pain located? Is it the left abdomen, the flank, the left lower back, what exactly?
Is there anything that makes the pain worse or better?
Are there any associated symptoms like nausea, sweating etc?
Is it constant or does it come and go?
When and how did it start and how long did it last?
You can use your follow up questions to continue this discussion.
Kind regards!

I thought I had made that fairly clear. The pain is on the left side of my abdomen. The pain gets worse when I move or cough. I have no fever but I feel a little weak and shaky. No nausea and no sweating if anything I am chilled. It is constant but if don't move and hold my breath the pain is better. It began about 24 hours ago and has gotten worse since then. I have not taken anything for it. I am about to take some pain medication.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
the "left side" could be anywhere between your arms, the are under your axilla, your abdomen, your back etc. If it's the abdomen only then this could be serious. Constant pain that gets worse over time (and with coughing or deep breaths) may indicate peritoneal inflammation. Left lower abdominal pain (which is the most common site, although this is still not clear) is usually caused by either inflammed diverticula or the ovaries. Other causes may apply but these are the most common ones.
Abdominal inflammation is a medical emergency and needs investigation as soon as possible. Clinical examination may reveal the nature of the problem and usually a CT scan of the abdomen is ordered for a more detailed assessment. Useful indicators include the complete blood count, the C-reactive protein and renal markers like the urea and creatinine.
Taking pain killers is not a good choice at this time because you may mask the symptom but the real cause won't go away and if it's indeed abdominal inflammation then your condition may get worse over time.
So my suggestion is to visit the emergency room as soon as possible for a clinical examination and radiological/blood tests.
My best wishes for your health!
