Suggest Treatment For Leg Pain And Ankle Swelling

Question: start off with a pain on left side of left leg, then ankle swollen up, went to emergency room they took xray of ankle & some type of scope to see if I may have have a blood clot but I didn't so I was given inflammation/pain pills, pain is still there only when I sit for a while then get up you can touch the side of the leg but know pain until i start walking

do you think it can be cause by degenerate disc (L5)?

It's more of ankle arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

If the ankle is swollen up then less chance of it being a spine problem. So disc prolapse is unlikely. Degenerative L5 disc will cause radiating pain from the lower back to the back of calf and front of foot associated with tingling and numbness.

It could be ankle arthritis. You can apply ice, keep the limb elevated. Avoid weight bearing if it is painful. You can bind the foot and ankle in a figure of 8 elastic non adhesive bandage.

You can get the swelling aspirated to test for common arthritic disorders. Also do get Blood tests like Complete blood count, Serum Uric acid, Rheumatoid factor, CRP.

You cab take Tablet Paracetamol/Acetaminophen 650mg twice a day for 5 days after meals for relief.

I looked up Rheumatoid factor & the sympton that is occurring is a sign Rheumatoid Arthritis, swelling of the ankle, joints stiffness, etc., are there any over the counter med you can take?
