Suggest Treatment For Lice In The Hair Of A Child
Question: My 4 year old daughter has got too much of Lice in her hair , seems like she has got it from other school kids. Can you please suggest any remedy , if we can use any shampoo for treating lice.

Hi,
Lice infestation can be treated with application of 1 percent permethrin lotion in the scalp after shampooing .Use a sufficient amount to saturate the hair and scalp; leave on hair for no longer than 10min, and then rinse with water and towel dry. Sometimes the lice may still be there in that case a repeat treatment after 7 days or use of 5 percent solution may be needed.
All the bedmates means the persons who are sharing the bed should be treated at a time.
Cleaning of all the cloths, hat, combs, bed sheets, pillow cover, scarf etc., with hot water and then dry with hot air is needed. Lice die at very high temperature somewhere around 120 degree centigrade. The unwashable stuffs can be given for dry cleaning.
You can also give ivermectin tablet after consulting your pediatrician.
