Suggest Treatment For Lichen Amyloidosis
Lichen Amyloidosis
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic
I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query. I have gone through the histopathology report/skin biopsy and also gone through your medical history.
Lichen amyloidosis is a chronic pruritic skin disorder characterized by brownish grey papules on extensors of arms and legs and rarely on trunk. Thioflavin -T positive amyloid deposits are found in the papillary dermis of the affected skin.
Many different treatment modalities have been tried depending on the severity and extent of involvement:
Topical treatment is usually the first line approach:
-Topical and intralesional steroids
-Tacrolimus ointment
-Topical Calcipotriene, Calcipotriol
-Topical Dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO)
Systemic treatments for widespread disease resistant to topical treatment:
-Cyclosporine
-PUVA (Photochemotherapy)
-Acitretin
Surgical treatment:
-Dermabrasion
-Laser
Your treatment history reveals that you are being treated with topical steroids(clonate) + emollients(dersil) and oral steroids(zempred) + oral antihistamines(alorti, teczine) for control of pruritus.
Your treating doctor would give you oral steroids for a few weeks (2-4 weeks) and then most likely would discontinue them and subsequently would continue you on just topical steroids+ emollients and oral antihistamines.
