Brief Answer:
Yes, this lump should be removed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Lipoma is a lump which usually does not grow in muscles or under muscles. Lipoma is a benign tumor which appear in the fatty tissue (just below the skin). Deeper located lump can be something more serious. Moreover his lump gives pain. This is also not a characteristic symptom of lipoma. It may happen if the lump is large and gives compression of tissues like nerves.

I suggest him to have chest CT done at first to determine the exact location and most possible reason of this lump.
Pain is enough to have it removed. So yes, he should have it removed.

What kind of test exactly showed possible blood clot? Was it d-dimers level? If yes, please note that this test result can be elevated in some heart problems, inflammation or cancer. So it does not have to indicate blood clot.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Yeah i cam see the lump under his skin near his ribs and it hurts when he moves. The dr said it may settle down and find a place where it won't cause pain. Im not happy about that and yes it was a d dimers. One test showed raised levels and another was normal he had ecg which was normal.

Brief Answer:
This lump wont move to another place.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Lumps like lipoma do not move from one location to other location. So this is not true, it wont find another, painless place. As it is just under the skin, it can be easily removed with local anesthesia. So please consult general surgeon with this problem.

Like I have said, d-dimers elevated level do not have to be caused by blood clot. It may be infection as well.
