Suggest Treatment For Localized Skin Rash At The Area Of Heat Exposure
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: My father contracted scabies last July and it was misdiagnosed for several months. once found out he was aggressively treated with both oral and topical medication. he lives in a residential care facility, so everyone there had to be treated and the dermatologist suggested that I treat myself and family even though none of us showed symptoms because i have been very close contact with him participating in his care. Mainly arm in arm walking, holding hands. I have always tried to very careful and wash my hands after contact ever since he has been in the assisted living environment with alzheimer's. my family was treated twice with the topical permethrin cream which the dermatologist was quite certain would be sufficient. we also did all the house hold cleaning/laundrey that was suggested. my father has had his follow up appt and the doctor is satisfied that he is no longer infected.
The question; last night I fell asleep with a heating pad, it automatically turns off after a certain amount of time, but I woke up with intense itching on that side. looked in the mirror and it was very red. I put Serna anti itch lotion on and was able to go back to sleep. this morning I have a red blotchy rash and am freaked out that I have scabies and the heat brought it out. is that a possibility, do you think?

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same.
A little localised skin rash at the area of exposure to heat is very less likely to be scabies .
But I would like to have a look at the exact skin condition.
Please click some close up pictures of the affected area and upload them here on this page.
Also please tell what all are you applying over it .
Is there any associated pain or itching or discomfort?
I am sure I will be able to help you better once you provide me the pictures along with the above details.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX
Unfortunately I am unable to get a clear picture on my own. so far I have just put some anti itch lotion on it once when the redness and itching occurred during the night. previously i did 2 applications of the permethren cream one month ago. I will wait and see what happens tonight and if need be get back to you or call my doctor.
I appreciate your response.

Brief Answer:
Apply medicine
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
You can apply a topical steroid cream like cortisone cream over the affected areas twice daily .
If the rash continues to persist or increase even after applying the medicine for two days ,see your treating doctor once again to rule out scabies or any other problem.
