Suggest Treatment For Loose Stool And Skin Rashes Around Anal Opening

default
Posted on Sat, 22 Aug 2015
Question: Hi,
My 14 month old has been passing liquid stool (mucus and greenish). She has passed stool at least 8 times since morning.
She has developed skin rashes around anal opening due to friction and wetness from motions and wiping. I am applying boroline over there. Can we apply creams like Candid there? Or should oil be applied? This must be painful for her and adding to her discomfort.
Please suggest some remedy for this.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Perianal excoriation - Apply siloderm cream

Detailed Answer:
Hi....by what you quote this seems to be a perianal excoriation due to diarrhea (acidic stools). This is quite common in diarrhea. For this rather than coconut oil or Boroline I suggest you apply SILODERM CREAM. Thrice a day.

While applying the cream wash the area with clean room temperature water. Do not scrub or wipe the area with cloth.... Just touch the area with a dry soft cotton cloth so that raw area wouldn't get more raw.

Regarding diarrhea - Once it starts it will take 5-7 days to completely get better. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.

There is no need to use antibiotics unless there is blood in the motion. Antibiotics might worsen if unnecessarily used causing antibiotic associated diarrhoea.

I suggest you use zinc supplements (Z&D drops 1ml once daily for 14 days) & ORS (Each small packet mixed in 200ml of potable water and keep giving sip by sip) as hydration is very important and crucial part of treatment. If there is vomiting you can use Syrup Ondansetron (as prescribed by your paediatrician).

Regarding diet - You can use cerelac...any flavour will do. Avoid fruit juices as they might aggravate diarrhea. You can give zinc supplements & ORS apart from normal vegetarian porridges & soups.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.

We have Zincovit drops. Can this be given in place of Z&D? I am not sure. Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Zincovit is different- its not Z andD drops

Detailed Answer:
Hi....Zincovit is different... It's not Z and D drops.

Zincovit is multivitamin drops.

Z and D is Zinc supplement. It contains 20mg/ml of Zinc. I suggest you use 1 ml once a day for 14 days.
