Suggest Treatment For Low Hemoglobin Levels
Question: My sister is 65. She had surgery and radiation for choroid plexus papilloma about 9 years ago. This was followed by bullous pemphigoids, for which she received Rituxin infusions. She has been hospitalized for severe confusion, which has been associated with UTI. UTI resolves, yet the confusion and Alzheimer's like symptoms remain! Last hospital visit found blood clots in her leg, and heparin caused blood pooling in her back. They put a screen in her groin and stopped heparin......this happened about a month ago. No appetite, complains of nausea, but much less than before. Now she is hospitalized with low hemoglobin (dr said it was 6, and she needed to be taken to hospital ASAP). Back on prednisone which seems to help confusion a little bit. How does this all come together? Why law hemoglobin, the Alzheimer's like symptoms?? Thank you so much. We don't know where to turn for answers . Her multiple Drs can't figure out any of this!!
Brief Answer:
Red cell counts & indices need to be known to know the cause of anemia
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
The cause for low hemoglobin can be determined once the type of anemia is identified.
In order to determine the type of anemia, red cell indices like MCV, MCH, MCHC and RDW need to be known.
It would be more informative if you could post the entire blood picture and red cell indices.
Thanks and take care
