Lower abdominal pain in a female can be of many origins mainly form the urogenital tract and secondly from the digestive tract. i would however advise you do an abdmoniopelvic ultrasound and consult a physician. I would like to know your last menstrual period and if you have any vaginal discharge or pains on urination

Period was about 3 weeks ago. Not ovulation pains, already ovulated. No pain during urination. Thought maybe gas pains? Have taken meds for that to no avail. Also took milk of magnesia, worked but still have the pains.

Hello!
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
Can you please give some more details about the localization of your pain:in the right ,left side or suprapubic pain?
-If you can put a number to your pain from 1-10 describing the severity ,what number is your pain?
-Is your abdomen bloated and with a sense of fullness ?
-Do you suffer from constipation?
-Have you noticed any vaginal discharge ?
-Have you had frequent urination recently?
These additional information would be really helpful for me in order to give you a better judgement.
Waiting for your reply.
Kind Regards,
Dr.Rovena Murati

Brief Answer:
Probably premenstrual syndrome.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again!
Well you have a moderate lower abdominal pain and bloated ,no pain during urination ,no constipation or diarrhea ,no vaginal discharge.
It doesn't seem to be something serious .
Since it has been 3 weeks since your last period ,most probably these symptoms are due to premenstrual syndrome (lower abdominal pain ,abdominal fullness, feeling gaseous) that happens 1-2 week before periods.
Usually these symptoms subside after the periods begin.
You can use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Ibuprofen ,Naproxen) for the pain.
If the pain symptoms doesn't subside after your periods begin ,you may need to consult a physician and get examined. In this case you need to do some tests including :
-Urinalysis to exclude urinary tract infection
-Abdominal ultrasound
-Gynecologic evaluation if needed.
Right now it doesn't seem to be something serious.
I suggest to wait some days and see if the pain will progress or will subside.
Meanwhile try to eat healthy ,drink plenty of water and exercise regularly.
Avoid eating some foods that increase gas production in gastrointestinal tract including beans (legumes), broccoli, cabbage, onions, and whole grains ,milk and milk products.
If your symptoms doesn't seem to improve or if they get worse ,you need to get examined.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if you have other questions or doubts to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.
Take care.
