Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Retrolisthesis of L5 on S1 means that the L5 vertebrae(backbone) is displaced backward in relation to S1. This means that the displacement is minimal and not big enough to be called a subluxation. This presents typically with a chronic low grade back pain. This might have occurred when you had the gold cart accident and the reason why you have been having symptoms for many years. Treatment is mainly through medications to control the pain. Surgery is rarely indicated.

Hi and thank you for the follow up.

Pars defects would be a damage to the facets(points of the vertebra, which can be felt on palpating the back) of the vertebra which would have caused due to golf cart wreck along with Retrolisthesis of the L5 on S1.

Since you have severe low back ache, you will benefit seeing a doctor. The doctor will examine and prescribe you pain medicines which might include an opioid/NSAIDS pain killers and pain threshold lowering drugs. If needed epidural steroid injections can be used.

Surgery is rarely indicated if no improvements at all even with the above mentioned medical treatment.

Physiotherapy would be an add on therapy along with medications. It will surely help you in relieving your pain and in improving your flexibility. Your treating doctor would be the best person to recommend when to start and where to get physiotherapy done.

Please discuss regarding this with your treating doctor.

I hope this helps and addresses your question full. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
