Question: my sister in law lives in Morocco. Her kidney's have been hurting for over 6 months, she has multiple fevers in a week, her heart is racing , she is very weak, and now her feet and ankles are sore and swelling; also she suddenly stopped having her menstrual cycle. She has gone to multiple doctors and only been told: you have heart palpitations, watch your cholesterol, or your tests are showing nothing. She gets winded just walking from room to room. This is not normal

As of today, she is dizzy and has not even got out of bed. We are so worried about her, but can do nothing if the doctor's there are not willing to perform more extensive tests.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. I would insist you to pinpoint to the location of the pain. Please note that the kidneys are located at the loins, in the back. Please specify if that is the location that you are talking about.

It is also possible that she has lumbar spondylosis which is possibly the cause of your low back pain. It is possible that this is leading to compression of the spinal nerves thereby causing the pain. An X Ray of the Lumbosacral Spine (AP and lateral) needs to be done in order to confirm the same. If that is the case, the treatment will be physical therapy or vertebral traction. I would insist you to get it done and to share the report with me. Hot compress should provide relief.

You also need to get her thyroid profile checked. Low thyroid levels can have similar presentations. If that is the case, thyroxine supplementation would be needed.

Please let me know her lipid profile reports and I will guide you about the cholesterol levels and things to be done about it.

I would also need you to get her blood pressure and heart rate measured. Till then please drink plenty of water.

It might be worthwhile to get her urine microscropy and culture sensitivity done to rule out the possibility of a kidney infection.

I will wait for your response. Based on the inputs I will definitely guide you further. It might be worthwhile to take her to a doctor and to get her clinically evaluated.

Dr. Saha,

Thank you for your reply! I truly appreciate your time. My husband will ask her to scan her current test results from the various times we have sent her to a doctor, in Fes, Morocco. It will be in French, would you need my husband to translate it for you?

We will ask her the questions you have listed, and I will send a reply tomorrow.

Thank you! XXXXXXX and XXXX
