Suggest Treatment For Lump Like Obstruction Near Thyroid

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: Hello,
I noticed when I press down into my neck, towards the front of my throat, above my thyroid, a small movable area. Not sure if it is lump but it is very small and seems to go away/become much less noticeable when I straighten/stretch my neck. Essentially, the area in question seems to flatten.

When I rub my neck without pressing, there is nothing noticeable.
I do suffer from health anxiety and do not want to overreact but would like some feedback.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Two possibilities.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to health care magic. I am Dr Ganesh.

1.There are two possibilities, first is lymph nodal enlargement, second actually a lump existing from thyroid gland or else where. Other possibilities can be lipomatous ( fat containing lump).

2.Lymph nodal enlargement can be seen in case of any infection / inflammation which can be localised or systemic - treatment is to treat the underlying cause.

3. The thyroid or any mass lesion needs to examine, and an ultrasound scan - that will help to assess weather there is any lump, if there is - then ultrasound will help to assess the nature of the lump, its source and extensions. If there is lump an FNAC - fine needle aspiration cytology - to evaluate the cells involved.

4.Some times it can be just your feeling, you may be feeling some anatomical structures and feel like lumps. As you are asymptomatic with this issue.

5.I would recommend to get a normal appointment with your GP and let the GP examine you and decide according to the findings. But if you strongly have concern - for a definitive diagnosis request your doctor for an ultrasound scan.

Good luck.
