Question: I recently had a breast exam and they found swollen lymph nodes under my armpits. My breast has no lumps and I have no symptoms. I do smoke but I'm trying to quit. What type if test should i have to check out this condition that was found? I'm going to the doctor in the morning to have test done. What type of tests do i need?

Brief Answer:
Armpit lymphadenitis / Under investigations

Detailed Answer:
Read and reviewed your query in context to your health concerns about investigations of the armpit lymphadenitis, which was accidentally detected.
Though you don't have the breast lump, you should check up with Surgeon for the Second opinion.

What Tests should you do?
- Surgeon's Consults and physical examination to rule out any hidden breast pathology.
- Chest X-ray to rule out the after effects of smoking, to find out if they are causing armpit nodes.
- CBC-Complete Blood Tests with ESR, to find out what type of blood cells have increased.
- Montaux test or IGRA Blood Test - to find out evidence of old and hidden tuberculosis infection.
- Sputum AFB tests may be necessary along with latest PCR tests on 24 hrs collected sputum
- Mammography / and USG of the Breast to rule out any missed breast lumps.
- Blood Sugar -Fasting and Post meals.

Those are the suggested tests for deciding further treatment-

If the armpit lymphnodes resolve after the course of antibiotics given from your doctor, there would be no need to investigate further. However surgical biopsy would be needed if the antibiotics don't regress these nodes in your case.
Above is the probable standard plan for testing a case like your's.

In the absence of more information from You,I would suggest You to have the Surgeon's physical examination first and get your case assessed for the list of tests, which are applicable to your case thereafter.

AS you are going to see your doctor tomorrow morning, you can take discuss with him about the list of tests which could be done in your area.

Hope this reply would help you to plan tests with your doctors there and resolve the anxiety.

If you can update on-
- how long you smoke?
/ any low grade fever is there?
Any loss of appetite is there in recent past?
Any loss of weight is observed by you in recent past?

I will Welcome with any further information on the above lines and any more query in this regard.
