Brief Answer:
It is most likely due to acid.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

The burning mouth and metallic taste are most likely due to stomach acid coming up, which it looks like you are also suspecting. It may have been caused by your gut flora being thrown off by the antibiotic, or other irritation, and may just be a temporary problem.

I recommend trying Zantac 150 mg taken twice a day. As you probably know, Zantac (ranitidine) is an H2 blocker which reduces stomach acid and GERD. It is safer with less chance of rebound acid problems compared with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).

If the problem just started within the past few days, you may only need a few days -week of Zantac. If the problem has been going on for awhile or is quite problematic, you might need to take the Zantac for 1 month.

A dental infection can also give a metallic taste, but not usually a burning mouth. So I think it is more likely to be acid reflux.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
