Question : Hi I'm a 40 year old female I have been having problems with breathing for the last two weeks feels like theres an irritation in my throat and I cant take a deep fulfilling breath Last year I was told by an allergist I may have vcd I went to my pulmonologist two days ago and was told I have mild asthma and put on pulmicort. My question is can I have both vcd and asthma also I take my peak flow when I'm feeling really bad and it is always at 90% is this still my asthma

Irrespective of whether you have Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD), you might be having post nasal drip which is an allergic reaction that could be responsible for the irritation in your throat. It involves an allergic component and you could benefit from taking Montek LC (monteleukast + levocetirizine). It is a prescription medicine and you would need your doctor to write it for you. Asthma is reactive airway disease wherein constriction of the airways occurs and that also involves an allergic component. In such a case taking pulmocort should provide relief. Since you have allergic upper respiratory problems it is not unlikely for you to have asthma. For the rest, your pulmonologist would be able to examine the pulmonary function tests and guide you further about whether you actually have asthma.

Thanks for your timely response my question is what could cause you to feel as though you can not take a deep breath when your peak flow is 90 percent and o2 levels 99
