Suggest Treatment For Mild Heart Arrhythmia While On Corticosteroids
Question: A nurse accidently drew up two syringes of 80 mg of corticosteroids today for bilateral rotator cuff injections. The dose should have been 40 mg in each sholder. Off and on today I have experienced a mild heart arythmia like my heart is throwing in an extra beat. I have had this over the years and it has been diagnosed as my heart adding an extra beat. How long are these symptoms likely to last? I am on metoprolol, atorvastatin and clopidrogrel because of a very mild heart episode a year ago due to a mild case of enlarged apical ventricular (left) hypertrophy. I don't want to add to the nurses or doctors troubles if it's not critical and I don't feel in distress.

Now i want to tell you that steroids injections are a common prescription for rotator cuff muscle tightness and a dose of 80 mg which has been given to you accidentally instead of 40 mg dose is not very high to create complications.
Whatever symptoms you are experiencing will go away within 24-48 hrs. However i would like to advise you to get one EKG done to rule out any other abnormal rhythm going on as you are feeling unusual. If the EKG shows normal sinus rhythm with occasional ectopic beats then nothing to worry about. As you are already on METOPROLOL so it will take care of those irregular beats.
