default
Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: I have facial swelling and mild pain on left side of face below lower jaw down to neck. Tenderness to upper left arm above clavicle. Have seen local oncologist and have had two ct scans, sonogram ultra sound. Without any results. And back of tongue turned black, this was treated by brushing with meat tenderizer to no avail. This has been going on since mid April. Right side showing very mild swelling. I am 70 yrs old of Asian descent living in us since 76. Dr at this point is unsure of cause.

Brief Answer:
seems to be referred pain.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having facial swelling with tenderness of left arm.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be lymph node swelling or due to refereed pain from cervical spodylosis or due to angina (heart pain). Kindly upload the photo, to see any visible vessels over the swelling.

I suggest you to do, carotid Doppler (to see neck vessels abnormalities), MRI neck (soft tissue abnormalities can only seen by MRI but not with CT scan (ct scan not useful) and ECG.

Your black tongue, is harmless, continue brushing. it will take time to disappear.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Brief Answer:
Carotid doppler.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Then go ahead for Carotid Doppler to see abnormalities of neck vessels (MRI will not visualize the vascular aneurysms or compressions).

All the best. Take care.
