Suggest Treatment For Mild Sensori-neural Hearing Loss In Ears
Recruitment phenomenon or endolymphatic hydrops.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. She has a mild SN (Sensori-Neural) Hearing Loss in both ears. Some hearing loss is expected at her age, but this is usually in the higher frequencies. Such an age related hearing loss (presbyacusis) can lead to 'recruitment' phenomenon where normal sounds are heard abnormally loud causing discomfort and even pain.
2. Her SNHL seems to be in the lower frequencies. There is a possibility of endolymphatic hydrops / Tullio phenomenon. Check if she has dizziness or tinnitus (sounds in the ears).
3. At present Scanning has limited value as the hearing loss is symmetrical.
4. If her blood pressure is stable, keep her on a salt restricted diet and ask your specialist to try neuralgic painkillers, multi-vitamins and anti-hyprops medications.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
My mother is little scared whether her ears will be back to normal or not ,and doctor suggested CT scan ,is that required can she come back to normal stage after taking the medicines please advice
Hyperacusis has limited treatment options.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. This hearing loss is mild. If it is age related and since a long time, there is no treatment.
2. Without the Hyperacusis, there would be no need to treat such a hearing loss.
3. If this is a recent problem, start with the medical treatment mentioned above. Other options are anti-anxiety drugs, steroids (oral, iv or trans-tympanic) with Hyper Baric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (done by an Audiologist), Broadband sound 'pink noise' maskers and Tinnex (caroverine).
4. A normal scan will add to the psychological benefit.
5. The success of treatment is not possible to predict. It varies with person to person and to the number of treatments taken.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
Thanks for your patience and help

Start with a revisit to the Audiologist.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. Since the Scan and reports are normal, most serious causes are ruled out.
2. The Hyperacusis or Recruitment can be confirmed by an Audiologist.
3. I would treat the ear pain first and if it does not respond, try the treatment options mentioned in my previous answers.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
