Suggest Treatment For Misaligned Teeth

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: Hi, my son's (age 26) teeth are a bit crooked. He wants to take treatment for them. Recently he met an orthodontist and he was told to extract 4 of his teeth (on bicuspid from each quadrant) or Inter proximal reduction for his front 6 teeth.

I've attached some of his teeth images. Please go through them and suggest which treatment would be good for him.

Please suggest what are the disadvantages of bicuspid extraction and IPR.

Also please let me know is there any way, other than extraction or IPR (he was little scared of these two) to correct/align his teeth.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to be worried so much, Extraction.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX ,

Thanks for consulting Healthcaremagic.
This is Dr. Priyanka Tiwari answering your query .

Read your query and gone through reports (image) you have attached as your son has malaligned teeth . crowding is present in anterior region both upper and lower arch . As far as I have observed Extraction is good option for him .

As you are asking about disadvantages of Bicuspid Extraction and Interproximal reduction see what happened is there is no disadvantage of extraction of bicuspid unless one bicuspid is impacted or permanent lateral or canine is not erupted . In interproximal reduction - IPR is not done in patients who are susceptible to caries and have less enamel thickness . As IPR cause senstivity in patients .

There is nothing to be worried so much and get scared . When more space is required then extraction is better option before orthodontic treatment . Consult good orthodontist and go for treatment .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.
