Suggest Treatment For Mixed Bacterial And Fungal Infection In Penis

Question: Hi,

On Tuesday November 17th I began taking metronidazole 500mg orally and nystatin triamcinolone topically for balanitis that was brought on after swelling of penis due to over mastrabation. After 4 days I am still in a lot of pain, experiencing white odorless discharge that causes the skin on the shaft of my penis to stick to the glands penis, and black lines growing in different spots on the inflamed painful areas of my penis.

I noticed that other doctors here are stating that a cream and flucanozle should be taken? Should I return to my doctor on Monday to request aditional treatment? My doctor didn't test to see what is causing my infection and seems to have prescribed something to treat a bacterial infection and a fungul one, but I am worried that it is not strong enough.

Additionally ahould I be worried that I am still in pain? Is it possible the steroid in the nystatin is slowing my healing?

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Infection of glans penis

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
your symptoms suggest that you have developed an infection of glans penis.
Application of steroid cream might delay the healing.
There is also a possibility that you have developed a mixed bacterial and fungal infection hence combined treatment is must.
It is better to meet your doctor and request him to do basic investigations like gram staining and KOH mount.
This will be helpful in knowing what exactly is the infection.
The treatment can be based on this.
Let me know if you need a doubts.
Thank you
